1 in 10 Singaporeans Is Obese

P548

In 2004, the percentage of Singaporeans that are obese is 6.9 percent and it has increased to 10.8 percent right now.

According to the Health Promotion Board, unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle are to blame.

Singaporeans are now engaged in more sedentary occupations with a rise in the number of professionals from executives to managers.

Even though there are more people exercising, more than half do not engage in exercise that last 20 minutes and more Singaporeans are also eating out.

The upswing in obesity rate is very alarming and we definitely do not want to be in the same situation as other western countries where one out of three is obese.

There is also growing evidence that obesity is linked to chronic diseases and the Health Promotion Board wants all Singaporeans to eat reasonably, exercise more and be with friends to enjoy life and be happy and healthy.
