Freeways operate most efficiently when traffic flows smoothly. When traffic slows down due to overcrowding or traffic obstructions, congestion occurs. The result is a traffic jam that can back up cars for miles. The same is true of the intestinal tract. The colon functions properly when bowel transit is accomplished with regularity. Constipation becomes a problem when transit time is slowed, bringing with it numerous health concerns. Sometimes the body’s systems need a little help to get things moving again, and with the constipation remedies like Nature’s Tea supports this natural process. Proper intestinal function is an important aspect of any program designed to help the body manage weight.*

    RESEARCH BRIEF

The colon, or large intestine, is the terminal portion of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The colon receives the thoroughly mixed and digested remains of food from the upper portions of the GI tract. Remaining nutrients, primarily in the form of indigestible fiber, is acted upon by intestinal bacteria. These bacteria produce various vitamins, such as vitamin K and biotin, that are absorbed into the blood. In addition, the colon also absorbs significant amounts of water and electrolytes from the digested food before it is eliminated.

Colon health relies on two factors: 1) the health and viability of intestinal bacteria and 2) constant motility to move the contents along the colon. Dietary fiber helps stimulate bacterial fermentation as well as motility. Lack of motility in the colon slows the transit time of digested materials. This leads to an increase in the amount of water reabsorbed and can lead to constipation. Severe cases of constipation can lead to intestinal blockage. On the other hand, greatly increased motility can cause diarrhea, which can lead to severe loss of water and electrolytes.

    Liver Cancer

What is liver cancer: One of the major organ in our body, the liver, is made up mainly 2 cell types. One being the liver cells and the other is the cells lining the bile ducts.

The primary cancer that arises from the liver cells is called HCC or hepatocellular carcinoma and as for the one that is from the bile ducts cells, is called cholangiocarcinoma.

Metastatic liver cancer is when the cancer cells are spread from other parts of the body to the liver.

What causes liver cancer: The most common cause of HCC is chronic hepatitis B and a carrier of hepatitis B has an increased risk of 100 to 300 times as compared to someone who does not have it.

For individuals who has immunization against hepatitis B, the HCC cases are decreased.

The hardening of the liver (lover cirrhosis), especially through hepatitis C and alcohol also causes HCC.

Prevention of liver cancer: Prevention of liver cancer is to check an individual’s hepatitis B status and be immunized if they are not protected.

Children are advised to be immunized at birth for hepatitis B though there is no immunization for hepatitis C.

As hepatitis B and C are spread in bodily fluids, it is widely associated with having unprotected sex and sharing contaminated syringes for those who are abusing drugs.
