    Liver Cancer

What is liver cancer: One of the major organ in our body, the liver, is made up mainly 2 cell types. One being the liver cells and the other is the cells lining the bile ducts.

The primary cancer that arises from the liver cells is called HCC or hepatocellular carcinoma and as for the one that is from the bile ducts cells, is called cholangiocarcinoma.

Metastatic liver cancer is when the cancer cells are spread from other parts of the body to the liver.

What causes liver cancer: The most common cause of HCC is chronic hepatitis B and a carrier of hepatitis B has an increased risk of 100 to 300 times as compared to someone who does not have it.

For individuals who has immunization against hepatitis B, the HCC cases are decreased.

The hardening of the liver (lover cirrhosis), especially through hepatitis C and alcohol also causes HCC.

Prevention of liver cancer: Prevention of liver cancer is to check an individual’s hepatitis B status and be immunized if they are not protected.

Children are advised to be immunized at birth for hepatitis B though there is no immunization for hepatitis C.

As hepatitis B and C are spread in bodily fluids, it is widely associated with having unprotected sex and sharing contaminated syringes for those who are abusing drugs.

    Anaemia Hits Young Active Men

    P586

Engaging in strenuous physical activity risk a low blood count and deficient in iron.

While exercising could be good, one would have to be careful on how to do it.

There is a new study that found young men are at risk of deficient in iron and low blood counts if they would to engage in strenuous physical activity.

Investigators reported that the low blood count tripled from 18 per cent before the start of the training to over 50 per cent after six months of military training, while the deficiency in iron nearly doubled from 15 per cent to 27 per cent.

Why the risk when engaging in strenuous physical activity?

It could be due to drinking lots of water that temporarily dilutes the blood or the high levels of physical activity causing damage to the blood cells.
