    Do Not Blame The Turkey 

    If it so happens that you put on some weight during this festive season, you can put all the blame on the stuffing, sauce, pastries and the trimmings.

    Do not put the blame on the turkey.

    Turkey, in actual fact, is an excellent healthy food even so when you are taking the breast meat.

    And it is especially so when you take off the skin. Turkey breast meat without the skin is as close to a meat that is fat free as you are able to get. And it contains high amount of proteins and some important minerals and vitamins.

    It includes a good source of vitamins and minerals like iron that is in a form which is easily absorbed; niacin that is good for raising the HDL or good cholesterol; selenium that has antioxidants properties; vitamin B6 and zinc that is important for the immune system.

    So, with such high nutritional value from turkey, do not give this good nice meat a miss during your next festive season celebration.

    Lose Belly Fat 

    When I presented my business card to a friend yesterday, he was asking me what did I choose to use a card that indicates Slim in front.  When I told him that the fat loss industry was a $50 billion market, he was shocked to hear that.

    A lot of people are finding ways and means to look slimmer but many products out there helps people to lose weight without due consideration to your health.  Imagine not being able to eat, have your meal replaced, crave for certain food and not able to eat, would you pay this price to become slim?

    Obese Kids – The New Age Disease 

    1 of the biggest health problems the world is facing is childhood obesity.

    WHO has estimated that there are more than 22 million children who are under the age of five and are overweight.

    Even Singapore is not spared from this phenomenon.

    There was an increase from 2.8% to 3.6% from 1994 to 2007 of obese students from primary school to junior colleges.

    Poor diet and lack of exercise remain the main reasons why children are becoming obese.

    To help obese children to lose weight, family support is crucial. Parents play an important role and exercising and eating together as a family are the mainstays of losing weight.

    Using threats, fear tactics, scolding or physical punishments will not encourage positive behavior changes.

    Getting your child active like going for walks in the parks, playing football or other ball games together as a family not only helps your kids to lose weight but also fosters good relationship within the family.

    At the same time, taking high fibre foods like vegetables and wholemeal products should also be consumed as contrasted against taking high calorie foods.

    An alternative to introduce will be to take Bios Life Slim before each meal.

    Childhood Obesity 

    Obesity is becoming one of the huge problems in the world and this is not only affecting the adults, it is affecting children as well.

    In the World Health Organization estimation, there are more than 22 million children who are under the age of 5 who are overweight.

    Even in Singapore, we are also seeing the increase of obese students in primary schools to junior colleges from 2.8 percent to 3.6 percent within a period 13 years.

    The main reason of this challenge that we are facing of obesity is mainly because of the lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle and poor diet causing more and more children to become obese.

    Hospitals, schools and various different groups are launching weight management programs for these kids and emphasizing group activities to promote interaction and mutual support between the kids.

    The most important thing to help the kids to achieve their desired fat loss is the emotional and family support from the parents.  The parents are responsible in guiding their children to healthy lifestyle.

    Eating and exercising together as a family are the mainstays of losing weight.  Diets like high fibre food and complex carbohydrates should be encouraged and high calorie foods like chocolates and fried foods should be limited.

    The other key thing is also to keep the kids active and exercise, if it is being done regularly will slowly evolve into a habit which will be something that the kids will continue to do even to adulthood.

    We all can do our part to prevent our kids from becoming obese and while watching what our kids eat and exercising together with them is important, we also must take note of their nutritional intake.
