Comparing to the Americans and Europeans, the Asians with the similar BMI to the Caucasians, will be at a bigger risk of developing illnesses resulting to deaths.

The reason being that the Caucasian that has the similar size of the Asians, has 4 to 5% less body fat.

Body Mass Index used to be between 18.5 to 24.9 for the Asians but now, the healthy BMI for the Asians should be between 18.5 to 22.9 instead.

Obesity for the Asians start at 27.5 while for the Caucasians starts at 30.

It is estimated thay half of the Singapore population is overweight and out of which, 1 out of 7 is obese and not to mention the percentage of people who has hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes.

The Indians with the similar BMI are at higher risk than the Chinese or Malays.

Though those with a higher BMIs are at risk, there are also high number of deaths in people who are underweight.
